This Day in Queer History

On this day in 1947, Yolanda Retter was born. A lesbian librarian, archivist, and activist in Los Angeles, she founded the Lesbian Legacy Collection at ONE Archives and led the Chicano Studies Research Center at UCLA.

On this day, openly gay Xavier Bettel was sworn in as Luxembourg's Prime Minister, becoming only the third openly gay head of government in the world.

On this day, Martin Jenkins was sworn in as the first openly gay Justice of the California Supreme Court. His appointment brought queer representation to the highest court in the nation's most populous state.
