On this day, Dale McCormick was born. She became the first openly gay member of the Maine State Legislature in 1990, serving three terms in the Senate and paving the way for future LGBTQ+ lawmakers.

On this day, novelist Merle Miller came out in the New York Times Magazine with 'On Being Different.' Over 2,000 letters poured in, more than the paper had ever received. His courage helped prove that visibility creates solidarity.
