This Day in Queer History

Today in queer history, Sir Ian McKellen was born. Openly gay since 1988, the acclaimed actor co-founded Stonewall UK and has championed LGBTQ rights while earning virtually every major acting award.

On this day in 1977, the San Francisco school board unanimously voted to include lesbian and gay sexuality in the city's sex education programs. Visibility started in the classroom.

On this day, over 15,000 people attended the first Gay Day at Disneyland, the largest private party the park had ever hosted and one of the earliest mass queer gatherings outside a pride parade.
