On this day in 1972, Gay McGill held the first of what became Montreal's most successful community dances. They ran until 1975, when the Quebec liquor board pulled their license.

On this day, the Massachusetts Supreme Court ruled same-sex couples had the right to marry in Goodridge v. Department of Public Health, sparking a national wildfire of civil disobedience and hope.
