On this day in 1969, Rudy Galindo was born. The 1996 U.S. national figure skating champion came out as gay and later disclosed his HIV-positive status, breaking barriers as the first openly gay skating champion in America.

Activist

On this day, Larry Kramer and friends raised just $124 with a banner reading 'Give to Gay Cancer' at Fire Island. From that modest start, he built movements that changed the world.

2001
Event

On this day in 2001, PrideVision TV launched in Canada as the world's first 24-hour LGBT television network. Now called OutTV, the channel gave queer audiences a dedicated home on the airwaves.
